Shrimp Temperature Checker

Set your tank temperature and see which shrimp species are happy at it. Helpful before you buy, and for deciding whether you need a heater.

Note: "Tolerable" means a species can survive near the edge of its range but does best inside it. Stability matters more than the exact number, so avoid daily swings. Most Neocaridina shrimp do not need a heater in a room-temperature home.

What temperature do cherry shrimp need?

Cherry shrimp and other Neocaridina do best between 65 and 78°F, with the low-to-mid 70s being ideal. They can survive cooler and warmer for short periods, but breeding slows in the cold and oxygen drops when it is too warm. Caridina shrimp like crystal reds prefer it a few degrees cooler. The most important thing is a stable temperature, not a perfect number. See do shrimp need a heater for more.

Ranges are the ideal keeping windows cross-checked against Aquarium Co-Op, The Shrimp Farm, Aquariadise, Aquatic Arts, and Fish Laboratory. Neocaridina (cherry, blue velvet, yellow) share the same profile; crystal red shrimp run the coolest and need soft, slightly acidic water.
